LOS ANGELES CA- Homeless population has risen in the past year in the Orange County Metropolitan areas as many people struggle to pay bills and find decent jobs to sustain themselves and their families.

According to ABC7 Eyewitness news “About 568,000 people in the United States are experiencing homelessness, with 151,000 in California, 66,436 in Los Angeles County and 41,290 in Los Angeles, according to LAHSA’s homelessness count last year. This year’s count was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.”

California’s homeless population alone make up 10% of the overall U.S Population due to job loss and rise of property values. Many corporations are also leaving the California area making it hard for people to find jobs.

David Lasky is a long-term resident of Los Angeles Ca, gave me a indepth detail on the matter in hand of what it is like living in this situation. Lasky is a Jewish movie producer who helps with screen writing and production.

“lot of ignorant people. A lot of homelessness in California now Not enough jobs. People must hustle to eat or pay rent. People getting sad and upset. It is very depressing. People are living in tents! A lot of people are moving’s are disgusted seeing homeless people eat out of garbage cans. I offered some food and money to some homeless people and they took it and said thank you. No, recent years It used to be very upscale Now it is very bleak and sad. There are homeless men urinating on the sidewalks.”, says Lasky.

Another big issue that was mentioned is the racism towards minorities especially the Asians that started to rise the fall of 2020. Asians are getting attacked and told to go back to china he explained. The community is seen as a virus and are blamed for the restrictions. The Asian Community feels that the community does not love them.

Lansky says, “they have their family in Mexico, and they can’t see them due to immigration. There is a lot of racism. It is 2021 but it still feels like 1951.”

Lansky has also expressed that people have been racist to him and spewed out Anti-Semitism comments. People have denied the holocaust and attacked him verbally for his Jewish faith.

The rise in homeless population and racism has been brought to light to the media and many people across the country. Many social media influencers have spoken with the issues and David Lansky has spoken before on the issue. Many programs are out to help the citizens but the social issue within the community continues to rise.
