Minneapolis MN- The Death of George Floyd rattled the community and caused a shock wave of fear, uproar, and sorrow across the Tampa Bay Area and the United States.

Derek Chauvin was indicted and charged for Manslaughter of the second and third-degree and second-degree unintentional murder on April 20th, 2021. The trial lasted a little less than 2 months but if convicted he can face over 75 years in Prison. The jury revoked his bail and sentencing is just a little six weeks away.

George Floyd was confronted for a counterfeit twenty-dollar bill and the cops were called to the scene where a frightened George Floyd was handcuffed, put into the car, taken out, and laid on the ground with Chauvin’s knee on his neck for ten minutes before passing away on the scene.

Witnesses report that Chauvin did not check his pulse, did not allow anybody to help. The entire situation was published on national news where the entire world watched the video.

The national protest took the streets of America as Black Lives Matter gathered millions of people to walk the streets and protest the change that took over the streets. Thousands of people from New York City to Tampa Fl people organized peaceful demonstrations to demand justice for George Floyd.

Certain protests turned violent as cars were flipped, buildings burned, people were just arrested, buildings got destroyed, cities called national guards to send people off. Police hosed and shot rubber bullets at the crowds.

The latest deaths of Breona Taylor and Ahmad Aubrey caused even more hostile environments in the situation across The United States that sparked international attention for the protest for Black Lives Matter and Equality.

Orlando Resident Joey Moore, who was hospitalized for an asthma attack gave me InSite his thoughts on the matter, “police are supposed to protect people and be kind and they should never hurt or kill people who aren’t armed. To prevent people from getting hurt or scared, I think that there are some basic things that officers can do to be kind to others. Officers should use a soft tone while approaching people and they should never yank people instead of asking them to come. They should always take people seriously when they say that they are hurt or can’t breathe, and they should never apply force to someone’s neck. Officers should never aim a gun at anyone unless they absolutely must. No arrest should end fatally. It was a senseless act that could be prevented if the police would do ongoing police training and ongoing mental health training as well.” says, Moore.

Soon after The Floyd Familly received $27,000,000 million (about $83,000 per person in the US) dollars in settlement and Derek Chauvin was arrested. The trial was broadcasted live on air.

Derek Chauvin would be found guilty of Murder and the world response with relief and a successful conclusion for the family and victims. Many People of color would be happy and share emotions all over the news, and social media.

Lakeland Resident Jason Cathell talks to me about the verdict and his opinions about the legal system in terms of racial inequality. “He didn’t make a big deal. But yet you have all these white Karen’s out harassing ppl. Threatening ppl. Causing public disturbances. Etc. But whatever happened to them? They’re not grabbed by the hair and thrown down and shot and killed. They are just told to move on. But let a black man sit at a coffee shot minding his business he’s harassed for nothing.” says, Cathell.

Derek Chavin will be Minnesota’s first-ever police officer arrested and charged for a loss of life and the case is one of the most historic phenomena in U.S History.

Residents and foreigners alike share future thoughts on the future of the police department and what this case will impact on future recruiters and future police officers joining the force.

“I was working and then I saw a video that night and was super mad and appalled. Future police conduct wise, I think the police will shape up more regarding not using excessive force and not be the aggressors per se, but still do their jobs.” says, Daniel Philips, Orlando FL Resident.

The African American Community was shocked and horrified by the death of George Floyd and the world cried for change and equality later protesting for justice to act which resulted in Chauvin’s Guilty Charges. Sentencing will be in June and people are still visiting George Floyds Memorial and saying his name and President Joe Biden has officially been working on the new police reform for future officers to join the forces.
